Rich Task- Goals

We had to choose 2 areas to work on such as flexibility, cardiovascular, and the muscular system. We had to write why we chose those particular goals and relate the to real life activities. I chose my bar hang and beep test. I chose these ones because I was above the class average so I just chose the ones that best related to my life.

Rich Task

Our Rich task is our term topic. Us year 6's have been doing a variety of tests over the last month. We have done a beep test which you just keep running from one point to another, and I got 17.2. We have done a flexibility test where you sit on the floor and sretch your hand is far out as you can in front of you as you can and I got positive 22 ,We have done a bar hang when you have to hold your chin above a bar for as long as you can and I got 1minute and 17 seconds. And finally we did a height test where we measured how tall we were with our hand up straight, then we jumped and had to measure between both results to see how much of a distance we can jump I got 36cm.After we had done all the tests my teacher averaged out the class average so we could see what we needed to work on.

Term Topic

I have just recently stated my second term of school for the year. Our main topic for the term is heath and fitness, the year 5's have to study the circulatory system (which can also be called the cardiovascular system) in the human body. The year
6's are studying fitness, good cardiovascular exercises such as rowing, running, cycling and mainly just anything that gets your heart pumping. When we had studied our cardiovascular exercises we did the beep test which tested our stamina, i don't know what we are going to do yet but I will keep you updated.

Camp

A few days ago I went on a school camp, to YMCA Shakespeare lodge for 2 ½ days. It was very fun. When we first arrived we unloaded our heavy luggage off the bus and took them all the way up a very steep gravel road. When we got up to the actual camp we realised that the buses actually could of come up to the top! We found out our cabin groups and I liked who I was with. We set up our beds and I was on the top bunk, YAY! We then sat in the courtyard and ate our morning tea.

We had a variety of different activities including Rock climbing, orienteering, archery, mountain boarding, Kayaking, beach sculpting and ultra high frequency radios. Rock climbing was very fun because we were aloud to belay our friends without any help and I made it up to the top every time! I enjoyed orienteering because you got to run all around the camp site trying to find the clues. Each clue gave you in between 10 and 40 points, and we got all 500! Archery was really cool because I hit the bull’s eye 4 times and got to get into the gold club! Mountain boarding was quite challenging because nobody had ever tried it before, we had to learn how to steer by ourselves and at the end we went down this really steep hill but then we had to take it all the way back up again.

Kayaking was really fun because at the time my activity group went the waves were really strong and I had kayaked before so it gave me a bonus. we were in double kayaks and i went with a class mate. In Beach Sculpting our group got spilt in half, we had to make it 12m², it had to be related to the other half of the group and it had to have symbols and icons that represented what we liked, for example shopping or tennis. It also had to be at least 1 metre high in one point. My group made a Whale 6 by 2 metres. The water spout was where it was one metre in height and we used sticks for it. Our Sculpture was related to the other group because they did Rangitoto Island and Whales live around Rangitoto Island. Ultra High Frequency Radios (U.H.F. Radios) were cool because we played Sardines and Noughts & Crosses. We heard others speaking on them like people on boats and taxi drivers. These U.H.F. Radios communicate by sending waves and can receive other U.H.F waves from 6km away.

On the first night for dinner we had Hamburgers, they were really nice. For breakfast the next day we had cereal and toast. For lunch we had rolls with salad and for dinner we had Nachos. On the third and final day we had cereal and toast for breakfast and hot dogs for lunch. My activity group had to clean the bathroom while the other groups got to play it was so unfair! My classmate and I were the only girls cleaning the bathroom because the others were too lazy.

When the second half of the year 5/6 classes came they were complaining about taking their bags to their cabins but the buses came up to the top (we had to do so much more work than
them anyway so I don’t see why they were complaining.)

Welcome To My Blog

Welcome to my blog. My blog has infomation about me and the things I do at school. I hope you take a chance to look around an enjoy my blog.

Philosophy

In philosophy, we have been focusing on the question What is luck ? on this we will have to define what is luck? in our own words and give examples to back our definition. this is actually harder than i thought as when you think of luck you sort of know what it means but don't really think about how to define it. Once again, if you go to http://www.room18space.edublogs.org/and go to the link philosophy you will find it.

Before we did what is luck we were talking about the cost of convenience and pollution how plastics affect the environment and how lots of packaging is plastics, if you walked into the supermarket mare than 50% of the food is covered in plastics like meat, chips, cereals, milk products etc.If you go to the link above, there will also be information about this under the philosophy link.

Art

In art we have been focusing on symbols and icons do do with ourselves. Eventually we will end up with a insect/bug on a A3 sized piece of paper with our icons and symbols inside them.If you go onto http://www.room18space.edublogs.org/ and click on the art link it will be playing a slide show of us holding up our icons.
